AUSTIN VOTERS — Did you know that the City of Austin is set to voluntarily start giving Simon Properties $65 million in sales and property tax rebates for The Domain luxury mall in NW Austin!?

Nearly 500 local businesses, together with 27,000 voters who signed petitions, have called for a vote this November to put the brakes on tax giveaways that undermine local business and raise the cost of living in our beloved city of Austin.

ya know what would make this site actually useful? how about some kind of note or banner saying *when* the election is. yes, i know, i finally figured out it’s on the november ballot, but i found that information somewhere else, not here… frustrating.

I saw the Will Wynn ad in the Chronicle. So, what exactly is “affordable” at the Domain? I guess someone who lives in a overpriced condo downtown would think it’s affordable, but the rest of us who live in old Austin wouldn’t.

To Squeak — we did this last week, upon your advice! To iciphene, we get your point — believe us! Please send our site to your friends in Austin. We’re in a big fight now with the City, two newspapers, and the big developer interests who could care less about the “affordability” of Austin. What’s in it for them, is all they seem to want to know. Thanks — SDS
